Vocals Only: Voice Classification for Singers


We all want to know who we are and what sets us apart as individual voices. Part of this discovery process is determining what voice classification you fall into. In contemporary singing ‘voice classification’ has limited use, but it can be helpful when learning what to expect from your God-given anatomy.

Voice classification is a helpful tool when seeking to identify yours, or someone else’s, general voice type. Most people typically think of voice types as falling into one of four categories: Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Bass. These four basic types are derived from choral compositions, and sometimes you’ll hear these referred to as SATB.

Vocals Only: How to Fix SHARP SINGING


Singing Sharp. Incorrect notes can be really frustrating when you’re first starting to work on your singing. Today we’re going to look at those notes that overshoot the mark. Singing sharp can be fixed and in this video, we’re going to learn how.

Regardless of where you are in your vocal registers, at the end of the day, a big part of your pitch accuracy will come from your ability to activate the right balance of breath pressure for the note. When you get the breath pressure right, it’s much easier for the larynx to apply the correct amount of muscle activity to hit the note with accuracy.
